every night the destroyer
every morning reborn
never once the betrayer
even after the scorn

so we're touched by a cancer
and we ask what's it for

a new season love you are turning
and dark ashes are falling
do not lose heart

though reason is lost and treaties burn
the good in us surfaces
yet fear goes on

so we forge a vision beyond our hate
and then burn that metal to cast new fate

and as heavy mists fall on the widest eye
while our prayers keep the pain from coming
virgin boys die

tears become a strength that rivals our death
as we survive the innocent
of the Great Oak

there are sons and daughters we would like to hail
and relieve them of their constant strife
